What did you thing of this: This unit has taught me more about slavery than I ever learned from my past education experiences but I think it may be more proper to say that America's memory of slavery is starting to fade ever so slightly, rather than America being "in denial". Slavery is a thing that happened in the past and I highly doubt that anyone will deny it. Rather, I think that since its been well over 100 years since slavery has been abolished, its starting to lose its tangibility as it slowly becomes a mere image of the past. Eventually the idea of slavery will become completely unrelated to current times and people will look at it simply as an event that happened a long time ago, similar to how we would view tragic historic events such as when Earth got hit by the meteor that caused the dinosaurs and millions of other species to go extinct; The sheer amount of biodiversity Earth lost that day was astounding. But that was 65 million years ago and its results are not directly noticeable by us today, especially if nobody told us it occurred. My point is that like everything else, slavery's 'impactfulness' is slowly being eroded by the sands of time, especially as many people busy themselves with all the things we do in our modern age and don't really have time to thing about it. I think that the legacy of slavery still kind of with us today. However as time goes on it will continue to slowly fade as well.
