Read the Broken Covenant, and answer the following questions: (please answer in complete sentences) The world had broken. Yahweh-of-Forever’s heart had shattered. He feared that in the midst of the spread of dark poison on the earth-planet, there would be no one through whom He could give His Covenant- Babe to them; no one through whom His God-Son could be born. What then? But His always-and-forever saving kind of love never wavered. He had a plan, and He was committed to it. He offered salvation inside a floating vessel for all those who desired it (however few), and He brought them into a world washed clean and full of hope. Then His ultimate saving plan could unfold. Here was the provision of a new start. Here was a gift of peace once again. Here was the offer of a new, deep relationship of trust and commitment. Here was an offer of covenant — a special kind of partnership to help mend the brokenness. (At this time, connect two fragments of pottery together to show this restoration process.)His first covenant was a gift of grace from a generous heart: a layered bow in the sky tying His love to them. It held a promise from Yahweh-of-Forever to each of them that the great waters would never cover again. It was personal. It was true. It was tied tight. In His heart, Yahweh-of-Forever dreamed a dream for each of the eight who now walked the clean, fresh earth. He dreamed that they would come to know Him, the only true God, as first and last — and that all, in fact, would be God- shaped and God- filled. He longed for them to trust Him with their plans and dreams, and know that only He could build a life for them on which the future would fit perfectly.
Later, He chose a Man to be Great Father of faith-family; a family who would show His true character to the world. Lights they would be, shining the truth of Yahweh-of- Forever (strike a match at this time). And as faith-family grew, He would offer another covenant: another faithful, enduring promise. In the spirit of true covenant- makers, theirs would be a friendship that was bound together permanently. He would say to them through this covenant:“This world is chaos again; but I can give you peace. I am a God of blessing. I commit to loving you, saving you, then transforming you. I want to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. I can make you a person who will honor My ways, but I will always forgive a humble heart when you fail. I will always be loyal and faithful even when you are not. I want to bless others through you.”
He wanted to restore in them His character of love. It is this they would show to the world. Yes, He would show Himself faithful in the dailyness so He could earn their trust — so even if they doubted His plan, they would never doubt His goodness. And in the times of wondering, their trust could grow. Yahweh-of-Forever showed them a new name for Himself: Ehyeh–Asher-Ehyeh (I AM), meaning “My nature will be shown through my actions.”In every act, He would build trust, one relationship at a time. He would call each by name. How marvelous to hear one’s name on the lips of Yahweh-of-Forever. Trust would grow faith. In this covenant-bond, each had a part to play. Yahweh-of-Forever would provide and protect and faithfully lead, and his faith- family would be loyal to Him and obedient to His ways. He would help them honor the covenant as they were willing. The trail of time would show that his faith- family did indeed fail — as Yahweh-of- Gorever knew they would, for He knows all. But as He lived and loved and honored and proved faithful, He would keep Hiscovenant-promise. Yes keep; as treasured. Protected. Valued. Guarded, with His life— for although his faith-family were broken failures who quarreled and doubted and deceived and fell — they were still precious in His sight. The greatness of the great Yahweh-of-Forever would be truly revealed when He offered to pay the price for the covenant failure on the part of faith- family — and offer His own life to provide an escape for every covenant breaker. Indescribable gift. Through His covenants, He would rescue, not destroy all things.
This covenant-keeping Yahweh-of-Forever God would do what they could not do for themselves. He would do the impossible.
Again. And again. And again.
