Question
POSSIBLE POINTS: 10
The British benefited from their North American colonies by using an economic system called Response area. In this system, the colonies in North America would produce goods and raw materials (such as; grains, cash crops, whale oil, dried fish, iron, etc.), which would be imported by the British for low prices. The British profited further by producing manufactured goods from these raw materials, which would be sold to the colonists. In this system, the Colonies were supposed to only trade with the Mother Country, and trade with foreign nations, and even trade between the colonies was discouraged. However, as long as Britain could earn revenue, or profit, from their colonies, the British government overlooked many examples of rule-breaking. This policy was called Response area, which essentially meant that as long as the colonies continued to serve and benefit Britain, that the British would leave the colonies alone, which allowed them to develop their own laws and local governments.

This policy of overlooking rule-breaking by the colonies came to an end after the French and Indian War. Despite winning the war by defeating France, Britain was highly in debt, and the British King George III and his Response area, which was the law-making part of the British government that advised the King, created a series of taxes to be imposed on the colonies to generate revenue for Britain. These taxes upset many colonists, who argued that they were being forced on the colonists without their Response area, or agreement to be taxed. Many colonists felt that to prevent abuses of power by Parliament, that the 13 colonies should have Response area in the British Parliament, which was refused by the British. To protest these tax laws, many Colonists, including the Sons of Liberty and the Daughters of Liberty, organized Response area by encouraging colonists to refuse to buy British made goods, and to instead buy American made goods. These protests were effective at getting Parliament to repeal many tax laws, however tension between the British and the colonists continued to grow.

The dispute over the tax laws imposed by Parliament divided colonists into factions. About 20% of colonists were Response area, who wanted Response area with the British. This meant that they wanted to compromise over differences, and to make agreements that would make both sides happy and restore the relationship between Mother Country and Colonies. About 40% of the colonists, including the members of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty, were Response area, who sought to gain Response area from Great Britain and establish the colonies as their own country with its own government. The disputes between the Patriots and the British and Loyalists would ultimately lead to the American Revolution, and the declaring of independence by the Patriot leaders!
