Explain battle of Stalingrad

La batalla de Stalingrado fue un enfrentamiento bélico entre tropas soviéticas y alemanas por el control de Stalingrado, la actual Volgogrado, en lo que hoy es Rusia. Comenzó el 23 de agosto de 1942 y finalizó al 2 de febrero de 1943, luego de que los alemanes se rindieran ante los ejércitos de la Unión Soviética

The Battle of Stalingrad started on august 23rd, 1942. The 6th army group and 4th Panzer army attacked the city and broke through the defenses and entered the city. Costly hand to hand combat followed with heavy casualties of both sides.  With heavy Luftwaffe presence the Soviet defenders where pushed back to to the West bank of the River. On November 19th the Red army launched operation Uranus that targeted the Romanian and Hungarian army's guarding the German flanks, Overpowered the Romanians and Hungarians quickly retreated allowing the Red army to surround the 6th army now in Stalingrad. Hitler was determined to hold the city so he sent the order for the 6th army to not surrender no matter what. The Red army fought Bravely and some of the most intense close combat ensued.  For five months and one week the Germans held the city but it was to no avail. With the Germans ammunition's exhausted and their food depleted the 6th army surrendered on February 2nd, 1943. The battle of Stalingrad was one of the most intense battles of the war with over 2 million deaths from both sides.
