Questions: 1. What was the journey to California like? 2. What would people returning from the Gold Rush tell you? 3. How did you make it out to California? 4. Did you get rich? 5. Would you recommend this lifestyle? 6. How did the discovery of gold impact the economy and population of California?

Role 2 – Pioneer traveling west by wagon on the Oregon Trail

Questions: 1. What route did you follow to get to Oregon? 2. What problems would you have encountered on the trail? 3. Did everyone traveling with you make it to Oregon? 4. What were you planning to find in Oregon and did you find it? 5. What were the major struggles on the trail and how would you go about conquering them?

Role 3 – Pioneer traveling west on the Mormon Trail

Questions: 1. What route did you follow and where was your destination? 2. What were your motivations for moving West? 3. What did you take with you on this journey and how did you transport it? 4. How did the travelers on the Mormon Trail help to settle the West?

Role 4 – Cherokee Native on the Trail of Tears

Questions: 1. What route did you travel? 2. What was the trip like and did everyone make it? 3. How do you feel about being forced out of your homeland? 4. What would you like to say to the Americans who have forced you to move West? 5. How did the Trail of Tears have an impact on the long-term existence of Native Americans in the United States?

Role 5 – Merchant/Trader on the Santa Fe Trail

Questions: 1. What route did you travel and where was your destination? 2. What was the purpose of the Santa Fe Trail? 3. What hazards did you encounter on the trail? 4. What lasting impact did the Santa Fe Trail have on American History?

Each paragraph is worth 20 points for a total of 100 points.
