Hanabiko the gorilla, also known as "Koko", was a gorilla with the power to speak using sign language and asked researchers via sign language if she could have a pet cat. After being unimpressed with a pushie cat, they gave her a real cat that was part of a young litter and was named All Ball by Koko.
