05.04 New Land DIRECTIONS: You have completed your journey west to California in the 1800’s by wagon. Write a
letter to a friend or family member back home in the East encouraging or discouraging them from
making the same trip.

Make sure to include the following info:

 Why go west
 Where to settle
 How to get there and how long is the trip
 What to bring to be successful
 What life will be like
 Who they may meet
 What dangers will be faced

Your letter also needs to include an appropriate date that fits the time period and include specific details
and facts from the lesson.
