Why does the Church consider the season of Lent, including Holy Week, the perfect time for us to respond to Christ's call to repentance?

The season of Lent including Holy Week is the time of year when the Church invites us to commemorate Jesus' Passion, death, and Resurrection. Through this, Jesus won salvation for us and gave us the promise of everlasting life. The Church continues Jesus' work of salvation during Lent by encouraging people to ask for God's forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
