Why was the battle of bunker hill a technical victory for the british but a real victory for the patriots

The British technically won the Battle of Breed's hill (A.K.A Bunker Hill) because the Patriots ran out of ammunition. The patriots had the real victory because of two things: 1, they proved to the world that they were a force no to be played with. 2, the British lost many, many more men than the Patriots did that day.
