On the western front during world war 2 british and us forces began their push toward berlin with the invasion of normandy italy germany the soviet union

The US, Britian, and lesser Canada and the French invaded normandy on D-Day June 6th 1944, they then advanced through France. The intension was the Operation Market Garden (Invasion of Netherlands by paratroopers) would propel the allies into Germany and then Berlin but the operation failed so the earlier Normandy invasion proved to be the driving force that made it into Germany.
It was infact the Soviets, advancing from the east, who brought down Berlin.
