The process of colonization involves an initial disruption of the current way of living of the populations who initially inhabited the colonized territories. This way of living involved in previous economic and political practices. However, with the arrival of European colonizers, these civilizations would be merely seen as sourcing points the kingdoms, completely changing the political and economic landscape of these places.

This was the reason why many colonies were heavily dependant on their European rulers after they achieved independence, as they depended on trade in order to subsist.
