Well sectionalism was a big problem because the united states had split into groups north south east and west the problem was basically the groups didn't help each other they cared about their part of the nation not the whole nation so when the Louisiana purchase gave slave states more land plus the south threatened to expand to the west that started the civil war we don't really have sectionalism today because the north south east and west aren't fighting over which land is theirs and nowadays people don't really invest in just the north south east or west because its the nation they live in we are more worried about the whole nation instead of parts
