Although there were occasional clashes between Greek cities-states, when it comes to the war against the Persian, all the Greeks were united in that struggle. During the first Persian invasion of 490 BC, the Athenians defeated the Persians in the battle of Marathon. Subsequently, 480 BC, Persian King Xerxes led second invasion of Greece, with its land forces and the navy in order to fully conquer Greece. Allied Greek city-states have decided to block the Persian army with the help of three hundred Spartans, led by King Leonidas in Thermopylae, to protect the transfer of the Greek army. While the total Greek army had 7 000 people, it was estimated that the Persians had some 150 000 troops. So there were three hundred Spartans, not the Persians.

the group i'm selecting: greeks.

a first group of greek immigrants came to the us in the 1850s. the second group came to america starting in the 1890s due to economic opportunities they didn't have back in their home caused by the hardships of ottoman rule. greek immigration was 90% male, many of them expected to work and return to greece after earning enough capital, but ultimately had to remain in the us after the greek genocide.
