What do the 13 states need to do in order to become successful?

Ok, so for the original 13 states, after they broke away from England, they needed to do a lot of different things to help the growing population survive the rest of the year and future years too. Think about what things were the most important to survival back then (if you think of today then that would be useless) and put it on your paper.
