Although there are fundamental differences in structure and objectives, the guild has been cited as a precedent of the modern union in terms of worker organization. When the Industrial Revolution began, it was forbidden to carry out workers' associations and it was qualified as a criminal offense. This occurred from 1776 to 1810. That is why there were no unions. After this time in several countries there was the so-called stage of tolerance where workers' societies were accepted, "mutual aid" or "resistance", without influencing the laws dictated by the state.
