Why does truman believe it is important to nations preserve their freedom and national integrity in the face of nations “that seek to impose upon them totalitarian regimes”?

He believed that by helping countries he would be supporting what was signed in the charter of the United Nations. He would embody the principles of the United Nations and thus democracy would spread and all countries would be working together. This would not be possible for countries with dictators or totalitarian regimes because they would do what they wanted.
