How did newspaper printing change in the 19th century

In 1884, Ottmar Mergenthaler invented the linotype machine, which molds whole lines of letters with hot lead. This invention started a whole period of work that lasted for almost a century. In 1962, the newspaper Los Angeles Times began to accelerate its linotypes with perforated tapes of RCA computers, after automating the alignment and hyphenation in the text in columns. This increased the efficiency of manual operators of the linotypes by 40%. In 1973, the corporation introduced electronic correction terminals, which were imitated by the Raytheon, Atex and Digital Equipment Corporation, among others. These terminals delivered strips of type on photo film fixing letter.

With the appearance of the printing press, the written press became the first means of mass communication and the original vehicles of journalism.
