Blaine Rawlings was at the verge of losing the ranch that belonged to his family. Therefore if this happened, he would have been left without a home and destitute. He, however, joined Lafayette Escadrille, which was a frontier air force that most british and American men joined before their countries came into the war. The air force was then named after Marquis de Lafayette.
