A ratio is a way to compare two quantities by using division

1. Ratio - "the quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other."

2. So lets say A is shaded diamonds and B is white diamonds. A jewelry store has 15 shaded diamonds and 9 white diamonds. What is the ratio Shaded Diamonds : White Diamonds. The answer will be 15 to 9 but then you have to simplify so you will divide both numbers by the greatest common factor which is 3 so your final answer will be 5:3!
