The groups of people that populated France before the revolution were the monarchy and clergy men(1st estate), the nobility (2nd estate) and the bourgeoisie(3rd estate)-peasants or anyone not if noble birth. The crises that provoked the French Revolution consisted of food shortages, harsh winters and the fact that the king and queen spent so much money. A lot of which was spent on the American revolution. The French Revolution did do some things for freedoms for men but little for women. The French author and idealist Olympe de gouge wrote “a declaration of the rights of women” in response to “a declaration of the right of man” to the National Assembly and was completely ignored. She was later excited at the same time as Marie Antoinette.
