How did the forty niners contribute to california becoming a state?

Increased population and development.--The 49ers were the men and women involved in the Gold Rush. 

The 49ers rushed to California in search of gold. The increase in population required development of towns and institutions to support the new population. With growing population governments were created in the new towns and eventually population numbers were enough statehood.
