Why did the compromise of 1850 failed?

The Compromise of 1850 failed for several reasons, including:
A) It failed to solve the issue of slavery- In this compromise it was decided that the 36'30 latitude/longitude line, used in the Missouri Compromise, would no longer followed to determine where slavery will exist. Instead, they merely allow California to enter as a free state and allow the New Mexico and Utah territories to vote on whether they want slave or not.

B) Ineffective Fugitive Slave Law- This law was supposed to help return slaves to southern plantation owners after they escaped to the North. However, several Northerners who were anti-slavery, would refuse to follow these laws. Instead, they would help these slaves get further away from their masters in the South. This compromise only helps in adding tension between the North and South.
