Samuel Gompers was a British-born American cigar maker who later became a trade union leader and an important figure in American labor history. Samuel Gompers became chairman of the Cigarmaker’s Union. Gompers has served as president of the CMIU 144 since the federation was established. Samuel Gompers became one of the founders of the American Federation of Labor in 1886 and led the AFL from 1886-1924.
The role of Gompers towards AFL is indeed very large, that is, moving workers with a principle of volunteerism or (working comfortably) When the government often imposes wills on workers which results in oppression, then this is not in accordance with the desires of the workers they lead, so Gompers invites the workers to boycott the government Gompers distrusted intellectual reformers, feared that their influence would divert workers' efforts away from economic goals. Gompers was the people who launched AFL politically neutral.
But then Gompers supported the nomination of president William Jennings Bryan who captured the message of the labor movement launched by Gompers. Then, followed by Woodrow Wilson's victory in 1912, led to the creation of a United States cabinet which sided with labor in 1913, one of which was marked by the emergence of a Clayton Anti-Trust action in 1914, which was part of the Adamson Act 1916, which proposed eight hours of the workday. Gompers is indeed famous for the actions of bringing change in the fate of workers in the United States.
