(ancient greece) how did athenians live a better life than the spartans?

That is debatable because it can be argued that Athenian women led much more limited lives than Spartan women. However, for men, it may have been better in Athens because it was within Athens (during the Classical Period) that art, philosophy, literature and democracy flourished.
