The party grew with the support of farmers, who were suffering due to laissez-faire policy and championed the ideals above.

Populist Party: this was the party of the farmer during the Gilded Age (late 1800s in the US). 

The Populist Party wanted reform and regulations for capitalism which would allow them more success as farmers. They also wanted more democratic say in the government reducing the power of those with money.
