The Brown vs Board of Education case was imperative in extending civil liberties. This 1954 Supreme Court case lead to the desegregation of public schools. This court overruled the idea of “separate but equal” that was established in the Plessy va Ferguson case in 1896. This case allowed for desegregation of public schools, allowing African-American citizens access to equal educational opportunities in comparison to white citizens.
