C) The struggle to unionize

James and John McNamara were brothers who were involved in the International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workers, commonly called the Iron Workers Union.  John McNamara was elected secretary-treasurer of the union in 1905.

Both  brothers were arrested in regard to the bombing of the Los Angeles Times building in 1910.  John McNamara admitted to setting the explosives for that bombing.  He was sentenced to life in prison.  James McNamara was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in bombing an iron manufacturing plant.  (There were more bombings perpetrated in addition to the one at the LA Times building.)
