When Lincoln originally went into legislative issues at 23 years old, he was viewed as being poorly arranged to hold office and, besides, ailing in appeal in education.   Over time, his insight, fallibleness, and capacity to associate with votes lead him to increase more prominent political clout.  Before 1856, Lincoln's political offices consisted for the most part of administration in the Illinois General Assembly and one term in Congress. In 1856 he joined the new Republican Party.  Two years after that he kept running for the U.S. Senate, becoming famous in discussions. By 1860 he turned into the principal Republican possibility to win a presidential decision.
