Biotechnology is the set of techniques that use living organisms or parts of them to obtain products or modify them, to improve plants or animals, or to develop microorganisms with well-determined purposes, that is, to obtain goods and services.

-Classical biotechnology: it was developed between the 19th and 20th centuries when scientists began to understand the processes of traditional biotechnology. Involves, for example, the regeneration of plants from parts of themselves.

-Modern biotechnology: since 1970, where the technology of recombinant DNA was known, consisting of an artificial DNA molecule formed deliberately in vitro by the union of DNA sequences and that comes from two organisms of different species that are not normally found together.
