Why do people get epilepsy and how can it be treated

Anyone can develop epilepsy. Epilepsy affects both males and females of all races, ethnic backgrounds and ages. Brain conditions such as brain tumors can cause it. Strokes are also the leading cause of epilepsy. Infectious diseases like meningitis can also cause epilepsy.

Treatment usually involves anti epileptic medications or sometimes surgery can control seizures for the majority of people with epilepsy. Other treatments like devices and changes in diet are used. Some people require lifelong treatment to control seizures, but for others, the seizures eventually go away. Some children with epilepsy may outgrow the condition with age. As of now there is no cure for epilepsy.
