According to the American Bar Association’s Model Guidelines for the Utilization of Legal Assistant Services paralegals are specifically prohibited from rendering a legal opinion to a client. Why? Paralegals are not allowed to talk to clients. Delegated work must be reviewed by the attorney. Only lawyers can legally communicate that information with a client. The client’s relationship with the lawyer could be put in jeopardy.
