If the difference of one number with the triple of another is 9, and the sum of the first with the double of the second is of 19, what are those two numbers?

Let the numbers be x and y.  Then x-3y= 9, and x+2y = 19.  Solve the 2nd equation for x and then substitute the result for x in the first equation:

(19-2y) - 3y = 9.  Then -5y = 9-19, or 5y = 10, or y = 2.  Now use the first equation to find the value of x:  x - 3(2) = 9, or x = 15.      x=15, y = 2.
