Okay what we need to do first is add the whole numbers.
1 1/3 and 2 1/4 and the whole numbers are 1 and 2.
1+2 is 3.

Now to add 1/3 and 1/4, but something is wrong. We need the denominator to be the same. 
So we need to find the same denominator.
We need to multiply the denominators by each other.
So the denominators are 3 and 4 of 1/3 and 1/4.
3*4 and 4*3 is both 12.
What you do to the bottom is what you need to the top the numerator.
1*4 is 4 and 1*3 is 3.
4/12 + 3/12.

Since the denominators are the same don't add those together keep them the same.
4/12 + 3/12 = 7/12
Now add the whole number 3 to 7/12
3 7/12 is your answer.

No a triangle cannot be formed because when you add the two smallest number together (which would be 11) the have to be bigger than the number it is "against" ( which would be 12)
