Solution: Let number of apples bought by Mr. Bushel= x

Number of apples used  for apple bobbing at the harvest festival=16

Remaining apples = x-16

As 2/3 of the apples are left.

→ 2 x = 3 (x-16)

→ 2 x = 3 x - 48

→ 3 x - 2 x = 48

→ x = 48

Number of apples used for making 4 apple pies = (3/4)×48=3×12=36

Number of apples left = 48 -36=12

So,Number of apples left with Mrs. Miller =12, which is used for making 2 caramel apples.

Number of children Mrs miller have=12÷6=2  →as number of apples required for 1 recipe is 6, So for 2 caramel apples 12 apples are required.

So , number of children Mrs. Miller have=2
