a gentleman possesses two purses.
were he to multiply the contents of the
first purse by 8 and the contents of the
second by 17, these two amounts would
be the same. were he to add half of the
contents of first purse to double the
contents of the second purse this would
total 49 pounds. how much money
does each purse contain?
