But let's say you start at 1mph. One hour later you reach the 1 mile mark. For the next hour you go 1mph again, and 2 hours in you reach the 2 mile mark. Then you go 2mph. 1/2 hour later you can go 3mph. 1/3 hour later you can go 4mph.

You are now going 4mph. 1/4 hour later you can go 5mph. (The way I figure out how long it is until you can speed up is by making a fraction, putting the distance you have to travel to speed up as the numerator and how fast you are going as the denominator: 1/4 [hour] ).

At the 5 mile mark, you will reach the 6 mile mark in 1/5 hour, 7 mile mark in 1/6 hour, 8 mile mark in 1/7 hour, 9 mile mark in 1/8 hour, and home in 1/9 hour.
