a) A rectangular garden measuring 23 meters by 27 meters is to have a pathway of uniform width constructed around it, increasing the total area to 700 square meters. Let the width of the path be x.

i) find an expression for the total width.

ii) find an expression for the total length.

iii) find the width of the pathway to 2 decimal places.

b) A rectangular piece of cardboard is 5cm longer than wide. A box of volume 546cm3 is constructed by using the piece of cardboard. A square of 6 cm is cut out in every corner and the rims are folded upwards to create the box.

i) let the width of the cardboard be x cm. find an expression for the length of the box.

ii) find an expression for the volume of the box.

iii) find the dimensions of the box.
