(i) Question
The amplitude A of oscillation of a spring decreases with time tand an
experiment yields the following data:
(t)
Time + (seconds) | 20 40
60
80 100
Amplitude Almm) 268 180 | 120 | 81 54
5.59 5.19 4.78 4039
3.98
The relationship between the amplitude A and the time t is known to be of the
form,
A = 40e-kt
a) Show that the formula for Timplies that In(A) = -kt +3.7
b) Draw the straight line that best fits the readings of In(A) against t and
hence calculate k.
c) Write down the formula relating A and t. Use this formula to
determine the amplitude after 50 seconds.
