More than 100 million people around the world are not getting enough sleep; the average adult needs between 7.5 and 8 hours of sleep per night. College students are particularly at risk of not getting enough shut-eye. A recent survey of several thousand college students indicated that the total hours of sleep time per night, denoted by the random variable X, can be approximated by a normal model with E(X) = 6.9 hours and SD(X) = 1.21 hours.
Question 1. Find the probability that the hours of sleep per night for a random sample of 4 college students has a mean x between 6.6 and 6.96. (use 4 decimal places in your answer)
Question 2. Find the probability that the hours of sleep per night for a random sample of 16 college students has a mean x between 6.6 and 6.96 (use 4 decimal places in your answer)
Question 3. Find the probability that the hours of sleep per night for a random sample of 25 college students has a mean x between 6.6 and 6.96. (use 4 decimal places in your answer)
Question 4. The Central Limit Theorem was needed to answer questions 1, 2, and 3 above. True False

Asmall (but heavy) particle placed in a glass of water will follow a zigzag motion because the particle will bounce off of the water molecules it meets. this is called brownian motion. a physicist simulates this on a computer, by varying the distance a particle can travel (called the mean free length), on average, before it collides with a water molecule and assigning the change in motion to be one of 8 directions, each with a similar probability. by running the simulated particle (with the same mean free length) many times she determines that it should take 15 seconds, on average, for the particle to fall to the bottom, with a standard deviation of 1.5 seconds. next she lets a real particle fall through a glass of water and finds that it took 18 seconds. what does she conclude, and why?
