Tangent NM = x + 5

External segment = x - 5

To find:

The measure of x and segment NM

Solution:

Secant segment = x - 5 + 25

                              = x + 20

Using tangent - secant theorem:

The product of the length of the secant segment and its external segment is equal to the square of the tangent segment.

Using algebraic identity:

Subtract x² from both sides.

Add 100 on both sides, we get

Subtract 10x from both sides, we get

Divide by 5 on both sides.

The measure of x is 25.

NM = x + 5

      = 25 + 5

NM = 30

The measure of segment NM is 30.
