PROJECT: ESTIMATING AREA
In this chapter, you have learned about area and found the area of different plane figures: triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, circles, and composite figures. However, how do we find the area of a figure that isn't any of the shapes we've explored?

In this project, you will explore how to find the area of figures like this.

OBJECTIVES
Estimate the area of irregular figures.
Connections
Calculus was developed by Isaac Newton to help prove his Laws of Motion. Some of this work involved finding the area of irregular figures. At the same time (around 1675), Gottfried Liebniz also developed a similar version of Calculus, close to what we use today.
