Researchers evaluated the impact of including a warning statement on jurors’perceptions of videotaped witness testimony. At random, half the participants in a mockcourt trial viewed the witness testimony with a warning about the relevance andlimitations of witness testimonies. The rest viewed the testimony without that warning. Participants all rated the witness reliability on a 10-point scale. The 10 participants offered a warning gave a mean witness reliability score of 4.4 (standard deviation 1.35) and the 10 participants offered no warning gave a mean witness reliability score of 2.6 (standard deviation 1.27). Do these findings provide significant evidence that offering a warning before a videotaped witness testimony affects the witness reliability?
