Trapezoid Area = ( ( 1 foot + 4 feet ) / 2 ) 10 feet = ( 5 feet / 2 ) 10 feet

= ( 2.5 feet ) 10 feet = 25 square feet

Area of the shaded region = 16 + 25 = 41 square feet

And to determine the area of the non - shaded region, the simplest approach would be the subtract the area of the outer rectangle, with dimensions being 16 by 8 feet, by the area of the shaded region -

Area of " Outer " Rectangle = 16 feet 8 feet = 128 square feet,

Area of Non - Shaded Region = 128 - 41 = 87 square feet
