First, I subtracted. 55 - 3 to get 52, as she should have three pieces of gum left over. Then, I divided 52 by 2, to get 26 students. To double check, I divided 52 by 26, which equals 2 pieces of gum per classmate.
So I believe the answer is: There are 26 students in Jessica’s math class.
