A giant has catched 10 hobbits and now he lines them up from shortest to tallest. Each hobbit can see all the shorter hobbits in front of him, but cannot see the hobbits behind himself. Giant randomly puts a white or black hat on each hobbit. No hobbit can see their own hat. The giant tells all the hobbits that he will ask each hobbit, starting with the tallest, for the color of his hat. If the hobbit answers incorrectly, the giant will kill him. Each hobbit can hear the previous answers, but does not know if it was a correct answer or not. The hobbits are given an opportunity to discuss the strategy before the hats are distributed.
