1. When manure or fertilizers enter water, the nutrients they release stimulate microorganism growth. These microorganisms reduce the dissolved oxygen content of the water body. Without sufficient dissolved oxygen in water, fish and other animals living in water suffocate.

2. Eutrophication is the process by which water bodies are enriched with minerals and nutrients.
