Our two equations would be:

Subtract 2x from both sides, and now we have y= 123-2x

That isn't a solid number, so we're going to plug that into where Y is in the first equation.

2x+3 (123-2x) = 153

Distribute

2x+369-6x = 153

add like terms

369-4x=153

Subtract 369 from both sides

-4x=-216

Divide off the -4, and we're left with x=54.

From here, we can plug 54 minutes (the time for annual appointments) into either of the equations. I'm going to do the first one because that's the one I used to get 54.

So, plug 54 in for x.

2(54) + 3y = 153

108 + 3y = 153

Subtract 108 from both sides

3y= 48

Divide by 3

y=16.

So, annual checkups take 54 minutes and sick visits take 16 minutes.
