) Forty-six members of a bowling league sign up for a program that claims to improve bowling scores. The participants bowl a set of five games before the program begins and a set of five games again at the end to measure their improvement. The mean number of points improved (over the set of five games) was x=11. Assume the standard deviation is σ= 45. and let μ be the population mean number of points improved for the set of five games. To determine whether the program is effective, a test is made of the hypotheses H0 : μ = 0 versus H1 : μ > 0. Compute the value of the test statistic.

1) A lab technician is tested for her consistency by making multiple measurements of the cholesterol level in one blood sample. The target precision is a standard deviation of 1.1 mg/dL or less. If 20 measurements are taken and the standard deviation is 1.6 mg/dL, is there enough evidence to support the claim that her standard deviation is greater than the target, at a = 0.01?

2) A test is made of H0 : μ = 47 versus H1 : μ > 47. A sample of size n=69 is drawn, and x=48. The population standard deviation is σ=27. Compute the value of the test statistic z.

3) A test is made of H0 : μ = 55 versus H1 : μ > 55. A sample of size n=62 is drawn, and x=62. The population standard deviation is σ=27. Compute the value of the test statistic z and determine if H0 is rejected at the level.

4) State the appropriate null and alternative hypothesis and find the critical value for a right-tailed test with α = 0.05 and n = 18. Use σ2 = 196.

Gravel is being dumped from a conveyor belt at a rate of 25 ft3/min, and its coarseness is such that it forms a pile in the shape of a cone whose base diameter and height are always equal. how fast is the height of the pile increasing when the pile is 14 ft high? (round your answer to two decimal places.) ft/min
