Reread the highlighted stanza. What two things are compared in a metaphor?
ROB
Rise and Shine!
a thief and the sun
by Ike Batiste
a dream and the sun
All I want is to sleep a bit longer,
But the sun pokes its bright head above my sill,
Like an eager toddler who can't wait to play
"Peek-a-boo! I see you!"
Not yet! Not yet! I'm having the nicest dream!
But sleep, that thief, sees the sun coming
And silently slips out the back door,
Stealing my sweet dream away
sleep and a thief
What was I dreaming? It's coming back to me!
But scraps of dream memories drift just out of reach
Like fall leaves dancing in the wind
That I chase madly but cannot catch.
sleep and a dream
