Ash is making a box by cutting squares out of the corners of paper, then folding up the sides. The piece of paper measures 11 inches by 14 inches before the cutouts. If the sides of the cutout
squares are x, write a function for V(x), the volume of the box when the sides are folded up.
(a) Graph your function V(x) on desmos, and sketch this graph on your paper (a sketch does not
have to be perfect, just the general shape of the curve and the x and y-axes.
(b) If you cut out squares of 3-inch sides, what volume of the box would that make?
(c) Use the graph to find the maximum volume the box could have. Write the maximum volume
and the x-value you must cut out to make the maximum volume. Include correct units.
